Food
The Dunster Castle Hotel prides itself on it’s Exmoor food menu, using locally sourced Somerset Pork, Red Ruby Devon Beef and Exmoor Lamb. All meat comes from the family’s own butcher business which has been established in the South West since 1969.
Gerald David and Family, who took over the Dunster Castle Hotel in 2007 run a very successful Butcher business, with 6 shops throughout the south west and also have their own abattoir. They also have their own Fish shop and Delicatessen in Minehead.
It was a natural progression for the family to want to showcase their meat in their own restaurants. The family bought Culbone Stables Inn at the top of Porlock Hill in 2006 and have turned it around into a very successful business. When the Dunster Castle Hotel came up for sale the family were determined to bring the old building back to its former glory. The family have successfully transformed the old building into a high quality hotel with an elegant restaurant serving the finest food, whilst still catering for the locals with a Cellar Bar offering good bar food and above all friendly service.
Dunster
The Dunster Castle Hotel building dates back to about 1750 and was once the home of the Luttrel family and various managers who worked on the estate.
The Dunster Castle Hotel lies at the foot of the medieval, cobbled High Street and Dunster Castle with the medieval Yarn Market at the top of the road. You can walk directly from the Hotel to Dunster Castle and the Gardens, the ancient Dunster Water Mill and Gallox Bridge.
